THE GOOD FRIEND

Go and Do Likewise

N/A

MISSION STATEMENT

The Good Friend exists to provide support and resources for the physical, emotional, relational, and spiritual need of individuals and families in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

VISION STATEMENT

The Good Friend takes roots from the story of The Good Samaritan found in the Gospel according to Luke 10:25-37 in which Jesus challenges believers to care for others, engage with the non-believers and introduce them to Jesus Christ.

What Would You Do?

Imagine, if in the story Jesus told, the Good Samaritan had no place to take the injured man to heal and be cared for after he assisted him on the roadside. Imagine if there was no inn. What could and would you do if you were the Good Samaritan? That is the question Congolese born Seya and Cady Lumeya asked themselves in 2021 as they visited Seya’s ancestorial homeland of Kikwit in the Congolese countryside. While there are hospitals in the city, for many in Kikwit those places of care and healing are either too far away, too expensive, or not well equipped. There is no inn.

Our Story

When Seya, (who grew up in the capital city of Kinshasa and emigrated to the USA) asked God the question, the answer he and Cady received was simple and to the point. Build the inn, or more specifically, a rural medical care center in the countryside that is both accessible and affordable to the people of Kikwit. Build a place where they can receive basic and modern medical care and healing. A place where the love of Jesus is revealed in both action and word. And so they began. Using their own limited resources and trusting God, they purchased land very near a nurses training school and started to build. They hired local craftsmen and hired a trusted supervisor who could carry on when the Lumeyas were back in America. The building is close to being finished, but there is still so much more to do before this caring center can serve the community. And this is where The Good Friend comes in.
